Price of green chilli shoots up to Tk 300 per kg

The price of green chilli has increased further in the city retail markets. On Friday (July 5) it soared to Tk 300 a kilogram (kg).

Traders said green chilli price has shot up because of a supply shortage following the recent floods and heavy rainfall in different places of the country. Imported green chilli is being sold at Tk 280 per kg. Prices of other vegetables have also increased. 

A customer in the capital’s Dhanmondi area told risingbd that he bought green chili at Tk 200 a kg a week ago. But, today he has to pay Tk 100 to buy the same vegetable. 

On Friday, upon visiting several kitchen markets around the capital including Mirpur and others it was seen that vegetable prices have increased. 

It was found that per kg eggplant was being sold at Tk 100, tomato at Tk 160, lady’s finger at Tk 60, bitter gourd at Tk100, sweet pumpkin at Tk 30, papaya at Tk50 and carrot at Tk 80. 

Local onion was being sold at Tk 100 per kg, potato at Tk 60 per kg, garlic at Tk 220 per kg and ginger at Tk 350 per kg. 

The price of broiler chicken has declined slightly to Tk 180 per kg. Beef was being sold at Tk 800 per kg, and the mutton at Tk 1100.
