Students to continue protest despite SC`s status quo on HC order

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court issued a status quo on High Court verdict that declared the scrapping of quotas in government jobs as illegal. However, the agitating students rejected the order and announced to continue their agitation.

Abdul Hannan Masud, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said this in a written statement on Wednesday noon (July 10).

He said, "We are not accepting any 'pending decision'. Our one-point demand is, Parliament should pass a law and cancel all types of discriminatory quotas by keeping a minimum (maximum 5 per cent) quota for backward communities in all grades of government jobs."

"We will be on the streets until our one-point demand is met from the executive department," he added.

In reply to a question, Hasnat Abdullah, another coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, “Our movement will not be affected by the High Court verdict.”
