‘Govt can reduce or increase quota ratio’ 

The full text of the High Court judgment, declaring the cancellation of the Freedom Fighter quota in the first and second classes of government jobs illegal, has been released.

According to the judgment text released on Thursday, there is no bar upon the respondents if they want to change, reduce or increase the ratio or percentage of the quotas relating to the aforesaid criteria as and when necessary.

The government can also fill up vacant seats from the general merit list, if the positions marked for candidates with quota are not fulfilled in any public examination, the High Court has said.

On July 11, the High Court bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat declared illegal the government’s notification in 2018 that abolished all quotas in first- and second-class government officer recruitment.

The order was issued in response to a writ filed by seven children of Freedom Fighters in 2021 seeking reinstatement of Freedom Fighter quotas.
