Appeal for help: Girl with cancer wants to return to school

Samia Tahsin, a sixth grader of HMS High School under Tala upazila in Satkhira district, is battling a brain cancer.

The 11-year old girl had been complaining of headaches and feeling sick and dizzy before she was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain tumour several months ago.

A team of surgeons removed the tumour on June 20 at Green Life Hospital at Dhanmondi in the city. According to the biopsy report, she has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. 

She is now undergoing treatment under Brigadier General (Rtd) Professor Dr Md Yousuf Ali of Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Specialty Center in the capital’s Dhanmondi.     

Samia Tahsin is losing last ray of hopes to live and return to school as his poor famer father finds it almost difficult to bear the expenses of her treatment.

Doctors say she needs 17 chemo and 28 radio therapies within next one year to save her life. To complete the full treatment, more than Tk 20 lakh will be required.

Md. Shujauddin, father of the girl and a man of Muragachha village under Tala upazila in Satkhira district, is a poor farmer. He is a father of three daughters and one son.  Samia Tahsin is his third daughter. His elder daughter is studying in a college, second daughter in class nine and a son in class two. Due to financial crisis and frustration, study of three other children is about to stop.

He has already spent Tk 6 lakh selling half of three bighs of agricultural land for her daughter's treatment. He is now frustrated and not in any position to bear huge amount of treatment cost.

Her father, mother Zohara Khatun, her siblings and friends have made a fervent appeal to the benevolent and affluent class of people and organisations to come forward with their helping hands to save her life.
