Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered a freeze on the bank accounts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s former personal secretary Jahangir Alam, his wife Kamrun Nahar and other organisations related to them.
The BFIU directed all banks asking them to send detailed information on those accounts in the next five days.
On Sunday (July 14), in a press conference, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “A peon worked in my house, now he’s the owner of Tk 400 crore. He doesn’t travel without helicopter now. It’s for real. How did he make so much money? I got to know about it and then took action.”
However, the Prime Minister didn’t mention name of anyone. After the press conference, media found the name. Later, the central issued the directions.
