The US Embassy in Dhaka will be closed to the public on Thursday due to the ongoing quota movement.
The embassy confirmed the matter in a notice posted on its website on Wednesday night (July 17).
According to the notice, the ongoing student demonstrations against quotas in government jobs have expanded the last few days and violent clashes have been reported throughout the city of Dhaka, its neighboring areas, and other cities. Due to the situation, the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka will be closed to the general public on July 18.
U.S. citizens should practice vigilance and reconsider their travel plans, especially to areas around public universities. You should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings, said the statement.
American citizens should contact [email protected] in case of emergency.
