A decision on restoring access to social media platforms Facebook and TikTok will be made after 11am on Wednesday (31 July),
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this at a press briefing on Tuesday evening at the Secretariat.
Earlier, seven ministers and state ministers held a meeting on several issues including a ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and quota reform movement situation.
The meeting started at around 3:20pm in the conference room of home ministry.
Top officials of law enforcing agencies were also present.
People are now able to use popular social media apps like Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp and YouTube due to the enforcement of strict blocking mechanisms.
The government sent letters to the social media platforms as it took a tough stance against social media giants in the wake of the recent violence centring the job quota reform movement.
The tech companies were asked to respond in person on July 31.
Palak said social media platforms, especially Facebook and YouTube, have not been complying with Bangladesh's laws.
