Govt joins online meeting with Facebook

The government questioned the role of social media Facebook, YouTube, TikTok in the recent violence centering the quota reform movement. The authority sent letter to them to explain their role. Although Facebook did not respond to that letter, the company joined an online meeting today.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) participated the online meeting from the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday (July 31).
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak is leading the meeting with Facebook on behalf of the Bangladesh government.
Earlier, following widespread protest over quota reforms in public jobs, the government shut down mobile internet on July 18.
