Commissioner of the Internal Resources Division under the Finance Ministry, Matiur Rahman, has been granted voluntary retirement in line with the civil service law.
The announcement came in a notification issued by the Internal Resources Division dated Wednesday (July 31).
According to the notification, the retirement came into effect on Monday, without retirement benefits such as post-retirement leave, lump-sum grant and pension, following his application upon completing 25 years of service.
Matiur Rahman recently came into the spotlight after his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat posted a photo of a sacrificial goat on social media and claimed to have bought it for Tk 15 lakh ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha last month.
At that time, he was president of the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.
Following this incident, investigation uncovered his extensive wealth, which includes land, flats, luxurious houses and resorts.
Subsequently, Matiur was reassigned to the IRD of the finance ministry.
The Anti-Corruption Commission is currently launching investigation against him for possessing assets beyond known source.
