Death of actor Himu: Probe report submission deferred

A Dhaka court has deferred the probe report submission till September 5 in a case filed over the death of actor Humaira Himu.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury set the new date for submitting the report on Thursday (August 1).

The probe submission report date in the case was fixed on Thursday. However, the police could not submit the report. Therefore, the judge fixed a new date.

According to the case statement, Himu’s boyfriend Mohammad Ziauddin alias Rufi, 36, and makeup man Mihir were at Himu’s residence on the day of the incident. Among them, Mihir lived in that house, and Rufi had been regularly visiting Himu’s residence for six months before the incident.

On November 1, Himu blocked Rufi’s mobile number and Vigo ID. This led to an altercation between them. Around 3pm on November 2, when Rufi came to the house and rang the calling bell, Mihir opened the house’s main door. Rufi entered the house, and Mihir went to his room. Around 5pm, Rufi went to Mihir’s room and, while screaming, said that Himu had committed suicide.

Later, Mihir asked him, “Were not you in the room?” To which he replied that he was in the bathroom at that time. At that moment, Himu had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room, the statement added.

Upon entering Himu’s room, Mihir found her hanging and saw two glass broken on the floor. Immediately, Mihir and Rufi took Himu down and brought her to Uttara Modern Medical College Hospital. The duty doctor, after examination, declared her dead. Then Rufi took away the two mobile phones used by Himu.

Himu’s aunt, Nahid Akter, filed the case against Rufi on the night of November 2, 2023, following the death. Later, police arrested Rufi.
