75 dead in violence in 16 districts

At least 75 people were killed and numerous others injured as fierce clashes took place in 16 districts on the first day of the non-cooperation movement announced by the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.

In Rangpur, at least two people and 20 people were injured in a clash between protesters and Awami League activists.

In Bogura, three people were killed in series of clashes between Awami League men and protesters since the morning. Of the deceased, one was identified as Munirul Islam, 34.

In Munshiganj, at least two people have been killed and 50 others injured in a clash between protestors and Awami League men.

Munshiganj general hospital caretaker Abu Hena Mohammad Jamal confirmed the matter.

In Comilla, three people including a cop were killed during clashes with protesters. 

Of the deceased, two were known as Abdullah Rubel, 33, and a police constable named Ershad Mia.

In Sirajganj, at least 13 people killed in an attack in Enayetpur police station.

Rajshahi Range Additional DIG Bijoy Bashak confirmed the information around 7:00 pm.

On the other hand, nine people were killed and many injured in a series of clashes between protesters, Awami League activists and police in Sirajganj amidst the ongoing protest called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Sirajganj sadar police station OC Sirajul Islam and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) confirmed the matter.

Sirajganj district BNP general secretary Saidur Rahman Bacchu said three people including district juba dal joint secretary Ranju Rahman were killed in clash. Two other victims are Sumon Sheikh, 28, and Abdul Latif, 42.

In Feni, eight people were reportedly killed in clashes between Awami League activists and protesters.

Feni general hospital RMO Dr Asif Iqbal confirmed the matter.

In Dhaka, at least four people were killed in the capital. Of the deceased, two were identified as Abdullah Siddique, 23, and Towhidul.

In Savar, a youth was shot dead in Ashulia of Savar during the clash.

Dhamrai upazila health complex Residencial Medical Officer Ahmedul Haque said the youth was taken to the hospital around 1:30pm.

In Narsingdi, at least six people were killed in the clashes between Awami League and BNP activists on Sunday noon.

The deceased were known as Delwar Hossain Shaheen, Sadar upazila parishad member Delwar, and Awami League leader Monir. Three others remained unidentified instantly.

Narsingdi sadar upazila chairman Mohammad Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter.

In Pabna, three people were reported killed in Pabna during several clashes. The deceased were known as Arafat Hossain Mahbubul, 16, Jahidul, 19, Fahim Hossain Razzak, 17.

Pabna General Hospital’s assistant director Dr Rafiqul Hasan confirmed the matter.

In Lakhmipur, eight people were reportedly killed in clashes between Awami League activists and protesters.

The deceased were identified as – Kawsar, Sabbir, Osman Goni, Ahsan, and Harun Member.

Lakhmipur Sadar Hospital’s RMO Dr Arup Paul confirmed the death toll.

In Barishal, a leader of Awami League named Tutul Chowdhury, 60, was killed in a clash in front of Barishal BM College.

In Cox’s Bazar, a protester was killed and nine others injured in a clash in Cox’s Bazar town around 6:00pm.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital Residencial Medical Officer (RMO) Md Ashiqur Rahman confirmed the matter.

In Kishoreganj, a woman and a child among four killed during clashes between protesters and Awami League activists.

The deceased were known as Anjana Begum, 32, and her 7-year old child, and, Abdullah, 50, and Juba League activist Mabin, 38.

Kishoreganj police super Mohammad Rasel Sheikh confirmed the matter.

In Sylhet, two people were shot by police firing in Gopalganj of Sylhet. The deceased were known as Taz Uddin, 43, son of Makbul Ali, Sani Ahmed, 18.

In Habiganj, a person named Ripon Shil, 27 was killed in a clash in the district.

In Magura, at least four people were killed and hundreds were injured in separate clashes in the district.

The deceased were known as Mehedi Hasan Rabbi, 28, Sumon Sheikh, 28, son of Kalu Mia, Farhad Hossain, 25, Ahad Hossain, 18, son of Yunus Ali.

Magura additional police super (admin and crime) Md Kalikullah confirmed the matter.
