US, EU, India, Pakistan welcome interim govt in Bangladesh

The European Union (EU), USA, India and Pakistan have welcomed the new interim government of Bangladesh and its head Dr Yunus.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the United States hopes the new interim government in Bangladesh will pave the way for a democratic future.

He said, "There has been communication with the interim government. Our charge d'affaires attended his swearing-in today."

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the European Union wants to work with the new administration of Bangladesh. The EU will assist them in their democratic transfer of power. This process must be peaceful and participatory.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday congratulated the new interim leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, and expressed hopes for deepening the relationship between the two countries.
