Money launderers won’t be able to sleep peacefully: Governor

Newly-appointed governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Ahsan H Mansur has said those who are involved in money laundering will not be able to sleep peacefully.

The new-governor said this at a press conference on Wednesday.

“Efforts will continue to recover the money from launderers. We will coordinate with the government to stop money laundering and work through national as well as international laws, he said.

High inflation and the foreign exchange reserve crisis are the two headline challenges for the economy, he said.

The twin crises will not go away fully within a year but the highest efforts will be initiated to ‘normalise the situation as soon as possible’ he said.

“We have to try to bring down the inflation rate as well as increase the level of foreign exchange reserves,” Mansur said.

Mansur, an economist who worked at the International Monetary Fund for about three decades, has replaced Abdur Rouf Talukder who resigned last week amid protests.
