Court orders Somoy TV to suspend broadcasting for a week

The High Court has ordered the suspension of the broadcast of the private television channel Somoy TV for seven days.

The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Shashanka Shekhar Roy passed the order on Monday (August 19).

Advocate Ahsanul Karim and Advocate Farzana Khan Nila moved for the writ petitioner while senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim stood for the City Group during the hearing.

Earlier on August 10, Ahmed Jobaer was relieved from the position of managing director and chief executive of the television. Later, on August 14, a petition was filed in court challenging the legality of the removal of Ahmed Zubair from the position of MD and CEO of Somoy TV.
