Dr Yunus seeks UK assistance in returning laundered money

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has sought British cooperation to return money laundered abroad from Bangladesh.

He sought the assistance when British High Commissioner Sara Cooke met him at his Jamuna office in the capital on Wednesday (August 21).

After the meeting chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters.

Shafiqul Alam said it was informed from different global institutions that a huge amount of money was siphoned off aboard during the regime of ousted Sheikh Hasina government and many people brought houses in the United Kingdom.

The press secretary said the government was determined to track the money laundered abroad and bring it back to the country.

Besides, British High Commissioner Sara Cooke, Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminori also paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Adviser.
