43 upazilas flooded, 18 lakh people affected

Six districts of Bangladesh have been affected by floods due to the consistent rain and onrush of water coming down from India, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
About 18 lakh people at 43 upazilas in the six districts have been affected by the floods, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday (August 22) morning.
Among them, a person drowned in flood waters in Fulgazi upazila of Feni district.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in the northeastern region and neighboring upstream areas over the next 48 hours, raising water levels in major rivers in these areas.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief prepared a list for the six flood-affected districts. They are—Cumilla, Feni, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, and Moulvibazar. At least 43 upazilas of these districts have been flooded, leaving 1,89,663 families marooned.
The ministry said relief efforts are underway, with 1,359 shelters opened to accommodate those displaced by the floods.
Currently, 17,882 people and 3,486 cattle have been given refuge in these shelters.
Additionally, 309 medical teams have been launched to provide medical care to the victims in the affected districts.
