Journo couple Shakil, Rupa placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand to former chief news editor of the private channel Ekattor TV Shakil Ahmed and his wife, former chief reporter and anchor Farzana Rupa in a case filed over the death of a man named Md Fazlul Karim during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir passed the remand order on Thursday (August 22).
Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Uttara East police station Mohaiminur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for the sake of investigation.
Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 21. Subsequently, they were handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of police and shown arrested in the murder case.
