Case filed against 3 ex-chief justices among 7 for contempt of court

A case has been filed against seven judges, including three former chief justices, for contempt of court.

Advocate Yunus Ali Akand, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the case with the relevant branch of the High Court on Wednesday (August 28) morning.

The three chief justices are Syed Mahmud Hossain, Hasan Foez Siddique and Obaidul Hasan, while the four judges are Md Iman Ali, Mirza Hussain Haider, Abu Bakar Siddiquee and Md Nuruzzaman Noni.

In the case, it was alleged that on September 27, 2020, judges punished Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand without giving him an opportunity to hold a hearing. They abused the power and violated the contempt of court rule.

Later, Yunus Ali Akand has been barred from handling any case for three months.
