Bangladesh has signed the International Convention on enforced disappearances.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government signed the instrument at the State Guest House and office of the chief adviser Jamuna on Thursday (August 29).

A notification issued from the Chief Adviser's press wing confirmed the matter.

Chief Adviser said, “This is a historical event.”

The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2006 and came into force in December 2010.

Initially endorsed by 32 countries, the convention now has 75 signatories. Its goals are to prevent enforced disappearances, combat impunity, and ensure victims' rights to justice and reparation.
