‘No possible to conduct rescue operation as Gazi Tyre factory risky’

A team of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has said it will be ‘very risky’ to carry out rescue operations at the torched Gazi Tyre factory.

After visiting the building, Rakib Ahsan, a professor of the civil engineering department of the university, informed this to journalists on Thursday (August 29).

He said in open eyes we did not see anybody of the six-storey building of Gazi Tyres factory.

The BUET team visited the building following an invitation from Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Hoque.

Prof Raquib said the fire mostly burnt the upper parts of the factory and caused more damage there than the lower floors.

If the rescue attempt is started from the ground floor, there is a risk of the building collapsing, he added.
Relatives have claimed 176 people are missing. But police and students have prepared a list of 129 people who are missing.
