Tipu Munshi placed on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court placed former commerce minister Tipu Munshi on a four-day remand in connection with a case filed over the murder of Sumon Sikder in the capital’s Badda during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the remand order following a hearing on Thursday (August 29).
Earlier, police produced him before the court with eight-day remand prayer but the court granted four days to interrogate him after the hearing.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested Tipu from the capital’s Gulshan area on Wednesday (August 28).
Sumon Sikder was shot dead in the capital’s Badda area during the student protests on July 19. Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a murder case against 179 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
