Six persons—former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, ex-state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former deputy minister Arif Khan Joy, Awami League organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain, Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail and Chhatra League’s Dhaka University branch general secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat— were placed on a fresh remand each by a Dhaka court in a murder case filed over the death of Ideal College student Khaled Saifullah.

After hearing on the remand petition on Sunday (September 1), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam placed former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former deputy minister Arif Khan Joy, Awami League organizing secretary Ahmad Hossain, Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail and Chhatra League’s Dhaka University branch general secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat on a fresh three-day remand each in the murder case.

Besides, former state minister for posts, telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has been placed on a six-day remand in two separate murder cases. 

Palak was produced before the court with a 14-day remand prayer in the murder cases filed with Badda and Sutrapur police stations. 

On the other hand, Tuku, Joy, Hossain, Sohail and Saikat were produced before the court with a seven-day remand prayer in the case filed with the Adabor Police Station over the killing of Rubel, an RMG worker in Mohammadpur during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

On August 14, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Tuku, Palak and Saikat from Nikunja residential area in the capital’s Khilkhet area. A Dhaka court placed them on a ten-day remand each in a case filed over killing of rickshaw puller Kamal Miah in the capital’s Paltan area. 

On August 19, Joy was arrested from Dhanmondi area in the capital. He was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of grocer Abu Sayed in Mohammadpur.

On August 20, Hossain and Sohail were detained from Gulshan area in the capital. A Dhaka court placed them on a four-day remand each on August 21 in a case filed over killing Juba Dal leader Nabin Talukder with Paltan police station.
