18 ex-ministers, 8 MPs barred from leaving country

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel embargo on former 18 ministers and eight lawmakers of the Awami League government.

Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order on Monday (September 2), following two separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC’s court Inspector Amir Hossain confirmed the information.

The 18 former ministers with travel ban are- former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud; former minister of state for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid; former minister of state for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, former minister of state for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak; former state minister for primary and mass education Md Zakir Hossain; former expatriates and welfare minister Imran Ahmed; former minister of state for power, energy, and mineral resources Md Enamul Haq; former minister of state for local government, rural development and cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee; former commerce minister Tipu Munshi; former minister of state for disaster management and relief Dr Enamur Rahman; former law minister Anisul Huq; former local government, rural development and cooperatives minister Md Tajul Islam; former religious affairs minister Faridul Haque Khan; former textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi; former minister of state for youth and sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russell; former minister of state for disaster management and relief Mohibbur Rahman; former water resources minister Anwar Hossain and former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu.

The eight former lawmakers are- Benazir Ahmed, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Shahidul Islam Bokul, AKM Sarwar Jahan, Sheikh Afil Uddin, Meher Afroz, Abu Syeed Al Mahmud and Sheikh Helal Uddin.
