Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has decided to reopen all garment factories open from Thursday (September 5). The law-enforcing agencies will provide the required security in different industrial zones.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Khandoker Rafiqul Islam made the announcement on opening of the garment factories at a press conference held on Wednesday at its headquarters at Uttara in the city.
He said that, 167 garment factories remained closed due to the labor movement in the last few days. Although the workers had no involvement in the movement. The chaos has been created in the garment factory due to the attack of outsiders. Therefore, the owners decided to keep opening the garments as law and order forces ensured the safety of the factories.
There is a rule to pay wages to factory workers within the first seven working days of every month. All garment factory owners accepted that. Some small factories or owners may delay payment of wages. But BGMEA is very vigilant about this.
Earlier, BGMEA held a meeting with senior officials of NSI, Industrial Police, Bangladesh Army seeking assistance in securing the garment sector.
