The High Court has directed the Bangladesh Bank to appoint a receiver to take care of all the companies of the Beximco Group owned by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industries and investment advisor Salman F Rahman.
Bangladesh Bank has been asked to implement this directive.
The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub ul Islam passed the order after hearing a writ petition on Thursday (September 5).
The court also issued a ruling seeking to know why the Bangladesh Bank should not be instructed to disclose the amount of outstanding loans of the Beximco Group.
During the hearing, the HC also wanted to know the amount of money laundered by the group.
The Bangladesh Bank has been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
At the hearing, Advocate Masood R Sobhan moved for the petitioner, while Deputy Attorney General Redwan Ahmed Ranjib represented the state.
