Shireen Sharmin Chaudhury was elected Member of Parliament from a seat in Rangpur. After the Awami League came to power in the 2008 election, Abdul Hamid was elected Speaker. When he was elected as the President, Shireen Sharmin was elected as Speaker on 30 April 2013. She has been in this position since then.
