Workers’ unrest: 25 RMG factories shut in Gazipur 

Ready-made garment factory workers demonstrated in Tongi, Joydebpur and Sreepur upazilas to press home their various demands.

Protesting workers blocked highways and vandalized various factories at that demands.

The protests began at 9am with workers from MTarnet Group Ltd in Tongi rallying for 13 specific demands. 

The unrest quickly spread to other factories, including Pinaki Group, Dress Man and Noman Group.  Workers from various factories also took to the streets. 

The protests forced the authorities of 25 factories to shut production on Tuesday.

Simultaneously, workers from Meghna Group's High Fashion Factory in Shreepur staged a strike with 14 demands, which escalated to highway blockades and violence against nearby factories.

Police, army and BGB members are working to maintain law and order.
