Man beaten to death at DU:  Case filed with Shabagh Thana

A case has been filed in connection with the death of a man, Tofazzal Hossain, at Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on the Dhaka University campus. 

He was beaten to death by a group of students on Wednesday night on suspicion of being a thief.

On behalf of the university administration, a supervisor named Mohammad Amanullah filed the case with Shahbagh Thana on Thursday (September 19).

The deceased was identified as Tofazzal from Barisal. He was mentally challenged, it was learnt.

At 12 midnight on Wednesday, the on-duty doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) declared him dead.

Eye witnesses said that some students caught Tofazzal around 9pm. He was beaten multiple times in the hall's guestroom until 10pm. He was even fed at the university canteen. After that, he was again beat up.

When Tofazzal condition deteriorated at 12midnight, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a seven-member probe body was formed on Thursday morning. It has been requested to submit the report by this evening.
