A Dhaka court has sent former public administration minister Farhad Hossain to jail after a four-day remand in a case filed with Adabor police station over the murder of garment worker Rubel during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ragib Noor passed the order after a hearing on Thursday (September 19).

Earlier, the investigating officer, Inspector Abdul Malek of Adabar police station, produced the accused before the court after four days of remand and pleaded to keep him in jail.

Farhad’s lawyer sought for his bail, which was opposed by the state prosecutor.

After hearing both sides, the court ordered police to send him to jail, rejecting his bail plea.

Farhad Hossain was arrested on the night of September 14 from Dhaka’s Eskaton area. On September 15, the court granted a four-day remand for further investigation.

On August 5, Rubel was shot during a protest rally near Mohammadpur Ring Road area. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where attending doctors declared him dead.

His father Rafiqul Islam later filed a case with Adabor police station on August 22.
