Interim govt approves Hilsa export to India

The government of Bangladesh has approved export of 3,000 metrics tons of delicious Hilsa fish to India on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja.

The ministry of commerce ministry issued a statement in this regard on Saturday.

The approval has been given fulfilling specified conditions based on the requests of exporters, the commerce ministry’s statement said.

As in previous years, India requested the import of Hilsa from Bangladesh in a letter sent on September 11, ahead of the annual festival.

The letter from Indian traders said Bangladesh had been exporting an average of 5,000 tonnes of Hilsa to India annually since 1996.

However, the exports came to a halt in 2012 to 2018 for unknown reasons.
