52 factories closed in Savar, workers block road

A total of 52 garment factories have been declared closed, following the ongoing worker unrest in Ashulia of Savar. 

Garments workers demonstrated blocking Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road for a long time on Monday,  demanding wage hike.

Of these, 43 factories have been closed based on Section 13(1) of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, and general holiday has deen declared in 9 factories.

Superintendent for Industrial Police-1 Md Sarwar Alam informed the media a total of 52 factories in the Ashulia area have halted production activities.
