Ex-MP George lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent Selim Altaf George, former lawmaker from Kushtia-4 constituency, to jail after remand in a case filed over killing an auto-rickshaw puller named Md Roni in the capital’s Mohammapur during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib passed the order on Monday (September 23).

Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mohammadpur Police Station Altaf Hossain, also the investigating officer (IO) of the case, produced George before the court upon completion of his five days of remand in two phases and pleaded to keep him in jail.

Earlier, on September 17, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Altaf from Lalmatia in a murder case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
