Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Lt Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon, who was killed by robbers during an operation in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

In a message of condolence on Tuesday (September 24), he prayed for peace for the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

According to a statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the operation in Maizpara village under Dulhazra union of the upazila, a group of robbers attempted to flee upon detecting the presence of the army patrol. Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjhon chased after a few members of the robber group.

At around 4am, the army officer was critically injured when robbers hacked him in the neck. He was immediately rescued and taken to Malumghat Memorial Christian Hospital, where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.

During the operation, three members of the robber group were arrested.

Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjhon was born into a respected Muslim family in Tangail district. The officer completed his higher secondary education from Pabna Cadet College and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) on June 8, 2022, after graduating from the Bangladesh Military Academy as part of the 82nd Long Course.
