Ex-DC Mashiur placed on another 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Mashiur Rahman, the former deputy commissioner (DC) of the Detective Branch (Lalbagh Division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, on another seven-day remand in connection with a case filed over the killing of a teenager Abdul Motalib during the recent Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Inspector Nazrul Islam of the Ramna Zonal Team, also the investigating officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury granted the remand order on Thursday (September 26).

On the night of September 19, Mashiur Rahman was arrested by the DB police from the capital. On September 20, the court granted a seven-day remand in a case involving the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area.

On August 4, Abdul Motalib, who was taking part in a procession during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Dhanmondi’s Zigatola bus stand, was shot dead. 

On August 26, his father Abdul Matin filed a murder case with the Dhanmondi police station.

A total of 176 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former road transport and bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, were accused in the case.
