Trial in Lt. Tanjim`s murder will be exemplary: Nahid Islam

Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam has said trial of the murder of Lieutenant Tanjib Sarwar will be exemplary. 

Nahid Islam, also the adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, made the remark after a meeting with the family members of Shaheed Lt. Tanjim Sarwar at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday.

Expressing deep shock on behalf of the interim government, he said that  his death in the attack of miscreants is an irreparable loss not only for the army but also for the country. Tanjim will remain as a symbol of patriotism among the country’s young generation.

Lauding the role of Bangladesh Army, Nahid Islam said that the young army officers played a strong role in the July mass-uprising and they refused to open fire on the innocent students-people. 

“They (army) stood for the people and now they are working for the country from that responsibility,” he said, mentioning that they are also carrying out responsibility of maintaining law and order alongside protecting the country.

The adviser said that initiatives will be taken by the state to do something to preserve the memory of Tanjim Sarwar at his birthplace in Tangail.

A total of six people have already been arrested for their alleged involvement in Tanjim's murder.

In response to a question regarding measures to ensure trial and punishment on the murders, Nahid Islam said that they will ensure stringent punishment for this murder. 

“The whole matter is under investigation. It couldn’t be said that whether there is anything more before the full investigation. But, whoever is involved in this incident will be prosecuted,” he added.

At that time, Shaheed Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar’s father Sarwar Jahan Delwar, maternal uncle, sister and high officials of the army were present.

On September 24, Army officer Lt. Tanjim Sarwar was killed by robbers in East Maijpara area of Dulahazara Union under Chakaria Upazila in Cox's Bazar.
