A Dhaka court has fixed October 9 to deliver its verdict in a case filed over the murder of Taslima Begum Renu by a mob in the capital’s Badda in July 2019.

Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka set the new date as the verdict was not ready to be delivered on Monday (September 30).

Earlier on April 1, 2021, the court framed charges against 13 accused in the Renu murder case.

The accused are: Mohin Uddin, Ibrahim alias Hridoy Mollah, Riya Begum Moyna, Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Md Shahin, Bachchu Mia, Md Bappi, Murad Mia, Sohel Rana, Asadul Islam, Billal Mollah and Md Raju.

All the accused pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Judge Fatima Imrose Khanika of the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka read the charges to them.

Taslima Begum Renu, a 40-year-old single mother of two, had gone to the Uttar Badda Government Primary School to learn about the admission process on July 20, 2019.

But a mob beat her brutally to death in front of the school gate, suspecting her to be a child abductor.

Following the incident, Syed Nasir Uddin Titu, Renu’s nephew, filed the case against 400 to 500 unidentified attackers with Badda Police Station.
