10-day remand sought for ex-MP Gini

Police have filed an application seeking a ten-day remand for former Gaibandha-2 MP and former whip of the parliament Mahbub Ara Begun Gini in a case filed over an attempt to kill student Rabiussani Shipu in Ashulia, Savar of Dhaka during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan, also the investigating officer of the case, filed the remand prayer on Tuesday (October 1).

Hearing on the remand petition is scheduled to be held at the court of Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate around noon.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested former Gaibandha-2 MP and former whip of the parliament Mahbub Ara Begun Gini from a house in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Monday night.

Shipu filed the attempt to murder case against 30 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Gini entered parliament for the first time as a representative of the Awami League in the ninth parliament. 

She was later appointed as a whip in the 10th parliament.
