A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for former Bhola-4 Member of Parliament Abdullah Al Islam Jakob in a case filed over an attempt to kill former Bhola-4 MP Nazim Uddin Alam in Savar around 12 years ago.

The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Razia Sultana passed the remand order after hearing on Tuesday (October 1).

Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Savar Model Police Station Johurul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, filed an application seeking a seven-day remand for Jakob in the attempt to murder case.

Around 3:30am on Tuesday, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Jakob from Dhaka’s Gulshan.

Nazim Uddin Alam filed the complaint against seven people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate SM Saiful Islam on September 12. After recording the statement of the plaintiff, the court asked the Savar Model Police Station to accept it as a First Information Report (FIR).

According to the case statements, Nazim and other BNP activists were taking part in a blockade programme on December 9, 2012 on the Amin Bazar Bridge when police charged them with batons and opened fire on them. Nazim says he and over 50 BNP activists were shot in the incident.

Alongside Hasina and Jakob, several others were accused in the case, including then home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, then IGP Hasan Mahmud Khondker, then Dhaka Range DIG SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, then superintendent of police Habibur Rahman and then Savar Model Police Station OC Asaduzzaman.
