Ex-MP Gini placed on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed former Gaibandha-2 MP and former whip of the parliament Mahbub Ara Begun Gini on a three-day remand in a case filed over an attempt to kill student Rabiussani Shipu in Ashulia, Savar of Dhaka during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The court of Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate passed the remand order on Tuesday (October 1).

Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan, also the investigating officer of the case, filed an application seeking a ten-day remand for Gini in the attempt to murder case.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Gini from a house in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Monday night.

Shipu filed the attempt to murder case against 30 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Gini entered parliament for the first time as a representative of the Awami League in the ninth parliament. 

She was later appointed as a whip in the 10th parliament.
