Plot to kill Joy: Mahmudur Rahman granted bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to Mahmudur Rahman, former acting editor of the daily Amar Desh, in a case filed over the attempted abduction and murder of Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain granted the bail order after a hearing on Thursday (October 3).

On September 29, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque sent Mahmudur Rahman to jail after he surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

Mahmudur Rahman was convicted by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACCM) Asaduzzaman Noor on August 17 last year.

Senior journalist Shafique Rehman, and Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskrit Sangtha leaders Mohammadullah, Rizvi Ahmed Sejar and Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan were also convicted in the same case.

According to the case documents, the accused persons held a meeting at home and abroad for kidnapping and killing Joy, the then ICT adviser to Sheikh Hasina in September 2011.
