The Advisory Council has given a direction to probe the allegations of money transactions in the appointment of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) against several officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration. Three advisers have been assigned to investigate the matter.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid said this at a press briefing on Thursday.
Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul and Information and ICT Adviser Md Nahid Islam have been given the responsibility.
The government is concerned over the claims of corruption committed by Public Administration Senior Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman and others, Sharmeen told reporters.
Shortly before the announcement of investigation, Senior Secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman had rejected the allegations and relevant evidence as ‘baseless’.
Earlier, a Bangla daily published two reports, backed by evidence, on the alleged corruption activities.
The government probe committee will also investigate whether the evidence cited by the newspaper were developed through artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Adviser Sharmeen said.
