Crackdown against muggers, extortionists very soon: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam has said that police will carry out crackdown against muggers, drug traders, extortionists and traffic mismanagement after the Durga Puja.
The police boss said this while talking to journalists after visiting Ramkrishna Math and Mission in the capital on Saturday.
“Durga Puja will end through immersion of idols on October 13 (Sunday). Police have already taken special security measures for the occasion,” he said the chief of the police force.
“Durga Puja is being celebrated at over 32,000 mandaps nationwide this year. A total of 215,000 Ansar members have been deployed at the mandaps, while 75,000 policemen, along with the armed forces, are directly ensuring security”, he said.
Mainul also assured that the National Emergency Service 999’s control room remains operational round the clock. “Whenever we are getting any negative information, we are taking action. Since 1 October, a total of 43 untoward incidents related to Durga Puja have occurred, and we have promptly responded to each case,” the IGP said.
“So far, 14 cases and 26 general diaries have been filed in connection with the incidents, and law enforcers have arrested 26 individuals,” the IGP added.
