Offices, courts, banks, share markets reopen after puja vacation

Offices, courts, banks, insurance, financial institutions and share markets have reopened today after the national observance of Durga Puja, a major religious festival for Hindus.

Public holiday is generally observed on the day of ‘Bijoya Dashami’. However, this time the interim government declared a public holiday on Thursday (October 10) by an executive order. Besides, there were weekends on October 11 and 12 (Friday and Saturday). Sunday (October 13) was a public holiday for puja celebrations. Altogether, the government employees got a total of four consecutive holidays.

Earlier, the religious festival began on October 9 last through ‘Bodhan’ (enlightenment) and the Sanaton community completed the five-day celebrations through immersions of the idols on the ‘Bijoya Dashami’ on Sunday (October 13).
