International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam said that the arrest warrant issued against 46 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate cases of genocide and crimes against humanity, has been sent to the inspector general of police (IGP).

Tajul made the announcement after Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Law Adviser Asif Nazrul visited the tribunal on Wednesday (October 23) morning.

Tajul Islam said, “The legal steps against those involved in the genocide are being taken quickly.”

After the visit, the law adviser said, “The tribunal’s work is going well. After the renovation is completed, proceedings are expected to begin in the main building of the tribunal between November 1 and 3.”

On October 17, the International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 44 others in connection with a case of genocide and crimes against humanity committed between July and August.

The order was passed by a three-judge bench, led by International Crimes Tribunal Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other members of the bench were Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

Earlier, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam had applied for the issuance of arrest warrants against the 46 individuals in separate cases.
