Cyclonic ‘DANA’ approaching coast 

The deep depression over east-central Bay and adjoining area is moving west-northwestwards and has intensified to a cyclonic storm ‘DANA’.

According to latest bulleting of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, DANA lies over East central Bay and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal and was centered at 06 PM on Wednesday (23 October 2024) about 650 kms Southwest of Chattogram port, 595 kms Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 585 kms South of Mongla port and 555 kms South-Southwest of Payra port.

It is likely to move West-Northwesterly direction and intensive, further.  Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the Cyclone center is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts. Sea will remain very rough near the Cyclone center, it said.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. three (R) three. 

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

According to Indian media, the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has transformed into a cyclonic storm named Dana and is heading towards the Odisha-Bengal coast. 

The storm is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika park and Dhamra port on October 25, Friday, according to IMD's latest update.

The Meteorological department has issued heavy rainfall alerts for multiple state districts. Consequentially, nearly 10 lakh people from coastal areas prone to the cyclone are being evacuated to relief camps.
