Search committee formed to reconstitute Election Commission

The interim government headed by Professor Muhmmad Yunus has formed a search committee to reconstitute the Election Commission (EC).

Senior Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury has been made the head of the search committee.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Tuesday (October 29) afternoon after Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus had approved it.

The six-member search committee will propose the names of 10 individuals according to the existing rule. Later, the President will constitute a new Election Commission selecting five, out of 10 names.

Earlier, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul said a gazette notification regarding the search committee for the formation of the Election Commission would be issued soon. 

 “After the formation of the search committee, the Election Commission will be constituted. Then, the voter list will be updated as there were a lot of questions about the voter lists,” he added. 

“The people of the country had no headache over the voter list as the previous elections were fake ones. This time, we will hold a free and fair election,” he said.
