Govt to take hardline measures to stop the use of polythene bags

The use of polythene bags has become a common matter across the country. The government will start drives in country's kitchen markets and supershops to stop the spread of polythene bags.
The drive against polythene bags will continue the whole month of November.
Full enforcement of the ban on use of polythene is set to begin on 1 December.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Jute, customers have been instructed to keep eco-friendly jute and cloth bags in all super shops as an alternative to polythene from today.
Along with the publication of a public notice in the national daily of public awareness, the issue of polythene bag ban has also been widely spread in the online and electronic media.
On the other hand, there is a mixed reaction among the buyers and sellers regarding use of polythene.
Skipping the polythene bags, the selling of tissue is seen in Chankharpul, Segunbagicha, Rayerbagh, Jatrabari, supershops.
Rafsan Hasan, an official of Shawapno supershop in Chankharpul said that they are selling products in tissue bags as an alternative to polythene bags. Because, the buyers are not interested to pay extra for jute bags.

Ahmadul, a consumer at Segunbagicha Agora said, I know that polythene is banned from today. So I brought an old bag from home.
Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) has said that the government is actively working to restore the former glory of jute.
Environment and Forest Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that from Friday (November 1), strict monitoring will be done to stop the use of polythene shopping bags. A drive will also be conducted against polythene producers.
