The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has clarified that the government has no plan to lease Saint Martin’s Island to any country for any purpose, dispelling a Facebook post of one Sushanta Das Gupta.
Recently, one Sushanta Das Gupta posted on Facebook about St Martin’s which the CA’s fact-checking page labelled as a ‘rumour’. He shared post featuring a photo of an event between the Bangladesh Army and the US Army, with the caption, “Deal done? Saint Martin gone?” The post implied that the country’s only coral island had been leased to the United States.
The fact-checking page of Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said, “Land Forces Talks between the Bangladesh Army and the US Army Pacific have continued for several years. Its 7th edition was held from August 14 to 16, 2023, in Fort Schefter, Hawaii. Any kind of post involving St Martin’s with the talks is merely a rumour”.
“Any claims linking Saint Martin’s Island to these talks are baseless rumours. The Interim Government has repeatedly stated it has no plans to lease the island to any foreign country for any purpose,” said the Press Wing.
It also explained a post of one Morshed Mahbubul.
