7 pro-BNP lawyers acquitted, petitioner fined

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has acquitted seven pro-BNP lawyers from contempt of court charge.
A four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, passed this order on Sunday (November 3), rejecting contempt of court rule.
Meanwhile, the court fined petitioner Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi Tk 1 lakh as she was not present in the court. This money will have to be donated to July Smriti Foundation.
Among the seven lawyers, Adv AJ Mohammad Ali expired last month.
Other six lawyers are Md Kayser Kamal, Fahima Nasrin Munni, Md Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan and Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal.
Earlier, a contempt of court petition was filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against seven pro-BNP lawyers for staging protests demanding the resignation of two Appellate Division judges. Advocate Nahida Sultana Juthi filed the plea on August 29, 2023.
