Govt to procure paddy at Tk 33 per kg, parboiled rice at Tk 47 

The interim government has decided to procure 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy at a rate of Tk33 per kg, 5.5 lakh metric tonnes of parboiled rice at Tk 47 per kg and one lakh metric tonnes of Atap rice at Tk 46 per kg.

The proposal in this regard was approved at a meeting of Food Planning and Monitoring Committee (FPMC) held at the cabinet division conference room of the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Wednesday.

As per the decision, the government will procure a total of 10 lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of rice from the marginal farmers across the country during the upcoming Aman season, partly for selling these to low-income people at affordable rates through OMS and TCB programmes.

The paddy and boiled rice procurement drive will begin on 17 November and will continue till 28 February next year, said Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan at a press conference following the meeting.
